On the occasion of International Day of Action for Rivers 2026, a public gathering and People March was held today on the bank of the Buriganga River in Bosila, Dhaka.
Speakers at the event, including Sharif Jamil, Member Secretary of Dhara (Dhritri Rokkhay Amra), and Abdul Mabud Sayeed, President of Gorjon Social Welfare Organization, along with other speakers, strongly demanded the restoration of the Buriganga’s lost vitality and its natural flow—one of the country’s historic and important rivers.
Following the public gathering, a mass march along the Buriganga riverbank was held, calling for environmental protection and the preservation of rivers.
With the participation of environmental activists, local residents, and young volunteers, the program called on the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to stop river encroachment and pollution and to restore the life of the Buriganga River.
