Save Tangkaboti River Movement

Gorjon Social Welfare Organization organized a protest meeting titled “Tangkaboti River in Crisis: Urgent Demand for Pollution Control and Eviction of Illegal Encroachment” on the occasion of International River Action Day 2026.
The program highlighted the critical environmental condition of the Tangkaboti River due to waste pollution, plastic dumping, industrial discharge, and illegal encroachment.
Key Highlights:
* Rising water pollution and ecological degradation
* Threat to biodiversity and fish resources
* Increasing health risks for riverbank communities
* Shrinking river flow due to illegal occupation
Key Demands:
* Immediate ban on waste dumping into the river
* Removal of accumulated solid waste and plastic
* Demarcation and restoration of river boundaries
* Strict legal action against polluters and encroachers
* Regular water quality monitoring system
Participation:
Representatives from Gorjon Social Welfare Organization, civil society members, and local communities actively participated and pledged to continue a people’s movement for river protection.
